Retina Mitchell

Artistic Statement

I like to create portraiture because I think when you look into a person's eyes you see their soul. Living an authentic life is realizing that that life is not always trimmed with roses. I have grown to realize much about concealing pain and going on. This is one of the ideas I explore in my portraits, the hidden story of the subject. That part of them that reaches out and speaks to me. I create my portraits to speak to the souls of those who support and see my work. I will always believe that we best communicate truth when we don't have to say a word.
